Question: If we all are part of God then we all are brothers and sisters; then why do we get married?
Answer by Amarendra Dasa:
This question is working on 2 domains. 1st half is on soul platform (which is reality) and 2nd half is on body platform (which is illusion).
So those who are self-realized remain celibate as Suka and Narada and 4 kumaras, they never slip to bodily designation. Hence for them the idea of marriage doesn’t even exist as they never come to the bodily sense of being ‘male’ and finding a ‘female’.
Now for conditioned souls-
There are two categories:
Those who are on the path of self-realization (practicing devotees) and those who are blindly in illusion (bodily designation platform).
For the practicing devotees also celibacy is advocated however if one feels bifurcated between spiritual knowledge in the head and material activities in reality then the sacred institution of marriage is applicable. Where one can use temporary bodily identification of eventually being elevated and freed from all material considerations.
Now there is one tattwa here, Jivas being Nitya Krsna Dāsa are dipped in prema. However, this prema by the cover of Maya’s Rajoguna gets flipped to Kāma.
Since Prema for Krsna is very deep intense and selfless, this gets pervertedly reflected as Kāma or lust which is seen as deep intense and selfish fire for satisfying one’s own body.
This fire if not checked, can cause havoc leading to many other anarthas plus social evils.
Hence to properly channelize it in the Lord’s service, in the reconversion back to Prema, it must be used for proper legitimate seminal discharge (leading to beget Krishna Conscious children in the Lord’s service).
This is how Marriage is sacred where even the reflected fire of lust is utilized to reflect back the original mood of Love for the Lord.
Finally, the last category of marriage for enjoyment is with no Atma tattwa (spiritual understanding). This marriage where the Lord is not the goal and where the senses are the goal is a disaster.
