The tongue weighs practically nothing but only a few can hold it.

Quote: The tongue weighs practically nothing but only a few can hold it.

Krsna conscious version of the quote:

Of all the senses that we have, the tongue is the most important. It has so many nerves in it that perform a variety of wonderful tasks.

Tongue can be the cause of our glory and also the cause of our defame. One famous speech by a freedom fighter everyone remembers while the hate speeches are equally condemned. Words that we speak are like an arrow shot from the bow….can never be called back. Hence the English proverb goes ‘Think twice before you speak’.

Srila Prabhupada says that even in the spiritual domain, tongue has paramount importance. One heinous Vaishnava Aparadha can kick us to the lowest planes of suffering while one pure name of God can liberate us from material existence. But that is not all. We may keep chanting but may still continue our sinful tendencies to misuse our tongue. This tongue which always keeps moving wants a topic to always talk on. When it isn’t given a higher topic, it stoops low to satisfy its urge.

4th class people discuss and gossip about people
3rd class men discuss events
2nd class men talk about ideas and betterment
And 1st class just talk about Krsna (Hari Katha)

Our tongue must be given 3 things:
1. Nice offered prasadam to taste
2. Sweet nectarean pastimes to discuss among other devotees
3. Transcendental Holy names of the Lord to chant.

This will give in all auspiciousness as such a person can truly hold his tongue and use it only when needed like the legs of a tortoise.

A successful person is the one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks that others throw at him.

Quote: A successful person is the one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks that others throw at him.

Krsna conscious version of the quote:

There is a famous story of how a donkey once fell into a pit and was loudly braying for help. The villagers started throwing bricks into the pit so that it eventually dies. But after somedays the donkey was miraculously out of the pit, it patiently used every brick thrown into the pit as a blessing and started making a ladder of these bricks. Standing on them one by one, it eventually came out of the pit.
The donkey represents a sincere devotee, who is very intelligent in Krsna’s eyes but may seem like a donkey in the worldly vision as he takes interests in things(Bhakti) which others are unaware of.
This devotee unfortunately has fallen into the pit of this material world and is braying  for help( Loudly chanting the holy names crying before Krsna and guru to somehow pull him out of this material pit of temporary flickering happiness)
As this continues, the heart starts to churn and all the poison of lust anger and greed start to manifest in great amounts. Also the bricks that others throw in the form of Fault Finding, Unnecessary provocation, Envious Comments, Thunderbolt words of criticism or Physical abuse and whipping (like Srila Haridas Thakurs example) or any brick at any level (whether gross or subtle)start pricking and hurting.
A devotee shouldn’t stop braying (Chanting) because it is inviting bricks, but instead must use these bricks as stepping stones to practice more tolerance and humility.
When we pray for humility, Krsna sends people to humiliate us hence we must take it like that.
On the other side, people throwing bricks will be handled by the lord himself. The famous story of Gopala Capala and the story of Sacimatas offensive words towards Advaita Acharya speak volumes about how dangerous Vaishnava Aparadha or Jiva Aparadha are.

I am no saint. When bricks are thrown at me, I like a donkey bray in Retaliation. However I pray that all of us, improve, tolerate and guard against offences.
Repent
Remorse,
Rectify
& Remember never to commit it again.

People with ego are like cheap clothes with high price tags. They are not worth, what they advertise.

Quote: People with ego are like cheap clothes with high price tags. They are not worth, what they advertise.

Krsna conscious version of the quote:

We all advertise ourselves as managers, engineers, scientists, corporate officials, skilled musicians, talents artists, cultured Indians, cool headed multitasking individuals, high earning elephants, good looking men and women, aristocratic Hindu Brahmins and Physically strong males and Mentally strong females, emotionally strong materialists and devotionally strong spiritualists.

What if someone walked up to us and said, you are none of this! You are the best friend of the creator of all creations, you are the son of the richest person who owns the whole cosmos, You are the servant of the most intelligent being who can design the infinitesimal Bedbugs to the humongous Solar System, You are the associate of the strongest person who can rip apart the oceans and the mountains in seconds, You are the personal companion of the most handsome personality who never uses cosmetics and still can make world leaders like Indra faint.
Think about it, how is the feel? Isn’t there a greed to meet this one person who has all of this all at once! How fortunate are we to belong to this person who is humbly and lovingly embracing us at every moment!

Aren’t we expensive clothes who are putting false cheap tags on ourselves with the above petty designations when our reality is something different?

This is our identity (True ego). Hence false ego of advertising ourselves lowly should be given up.
Hare Krsna!

Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will. Don’t ever doubt your abilities. God has empowered you enough to do any task. Just try it.

Quote: Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will. Don’t ever doubt your abilities. God has empowered you enough to do any task. Just try it.

Krsna conscious version of the quote:

Do not doubt guru sadhu and shastras. The scriptures should be used to reconcile all tattwa siddhantas.

Heart has doubt
Bhakti goes out!

So don’t feel you can’t go back home in one life. Krsna has given all facilities. Make the best use and go for it. Hare Krsna!

Knowledge

Quote:

“Knowledge is certainly a man’s greatest beauty. It is a safe and hidden treasure.
It provides prosperity, fame and happiness. Knowledge is the teacher of all teachers.
It acts as one’s friend in a foreign country. Knowledge is the Supreme God.
It is the knowledge, not wealth, which is adored by kings. Without knowledge one remains as animal.”

Krsna conscious version of the quote:

Knowledge referring to brahma jnana (Krsna consciousness), knowledge about why we are suffering, where did we come from and how to get back. That’s man’s greatest beauty. Why? Because that attracts the all beautiful Krsna while nothing else can attract Krsna except bhakti.

It is a safe and hidden treasure. What does that mean? It’s the only thing that never goes waste. Read 2.40-41 BG. Krsna says it never goes waste. Whatever a jiva does for Krsna in any life is recorded and Krsna never forgets. So it’s a safe and hidden treasure that can never be stolen.

It provides prosperity (Krsna prema) fame (eternal blessings from every acharya) n happiness (as one gets liberated).

It is the teacher of all teachers as every bonafide guru has a guru who has a guru seeking knowledge from scriptures.

Friend in a foreign country – My personal example

It is the Supreme God and without that one remains an animal as human form milke bhakti nai kiya scriptures se nai seekha and guru and Krsna ko surrender nai kiya tho sakshat pashu(animal)
Scriptures say a human who doesn’t inquire about Krsna is an animal that doesn’t eat grass, doesn’t have a tail and doesn’t possess horns.
Sahitya sangeeta kala vihina
Sakshat pashu pucha vishaan hina
Trnam na khaaadan na pi jeeva maanam
Tad bhaaga deyam PARAMAM PASHUNAAM

If you smile, it is good. It means you are thinking about God. But if you make someone smile it means now God is thinking about you.

Quote: If you smile, it is good. It means you are thinking about God. But if you make someone smile it means now God is thinking about you.

Krsna conscious version of the quote:

Mother Teresa said once that one will be shocked to know the wonders that a simple smile can do! In the present age, smiling has become absent. People prefer to frown, Make fun of others and laugh, share some vulgar content and laugh or in other cases, just be lost in the worries of tomorrow or the regrets of the past.
The emotions of anger, envy and pride are easily found while a simple genuine smile is difficult to see. One may have all reasons to be happy and satisfied yet the uncontrolled mind wants to grim and hover over all the negatives.
We know that the face is often the mirror of our heart. On that face, smile is indeed very important. It cannot be enforced artificially. It comes naturally when one is satisfied within.
When a devotee chants the holy name of the lord, and is feeling sheltered and protected, he becomes fearless. He sees that lord residing in every jiva and this springs in compassion in him. That smile is what we are referring to. Plastic smiles are good externally while spiritually content faces express heartfelt love for God and all his beings.

This compassion of God that springs in the devotee’s heart manifests in this world through his noble work. He lives his life for others by spreading goodwill in the material and spiritual sense. Only such empowered souls who have Krsna’s mercy can bring in true smiles around.

Life never makes you or breaks you. It is your mentality that decides. So… “Never give up, never feel low; wear a smile and steal the show”.

Quote: Life never makes you or breaks you. It is your mentality that decides.  So… “Never give up, never feel low; wear a smile and steal the show”.

Krsna conscious version of the quote:

Destiny is something that is inevitable but however everything isn’t scripted. A rough sketch is scripted while we are given our sweet free will to take decisions. This is what makes us human and not remote controlled robots in the hand of God.

Our past good and reaction do come back as at the end of the day, all accounts are settled and everyone gets their share. When good reactions come, one can either take all credit and get proud or can humbly see the hand of God. Situations and circumstances come but our behaviour says it all. Hence one who stays humble, gets the vision of compassion and gratitude in life.

A lie may be capable enough to take care of your present, but always remember it has no future at all.

Quote: A lie may be capable enough to take care of your present, but always remember it has no future at all.

Krsna conscious version of the quote:

“Preaching means Pinching!”

Modern day philosophies try to comfort man with all the lies for that’s what people wish to hear. Prabhupada Saraswati Thakur used to say this world is made up of 2 kinds of people
Those who wish to cheat
&
Those who wish to be cheated

We may wonder who on earth wants to be cheated?
But if we carefully analyze, that’s what can be seen around. People want yoga for the body, for flexibility, for physical health and for long life so that sense gratification can go on without any speed breakers.
So they head to cheating So called gurus who themselves are neck deep drowning in this ocean of material existence. Such fools take on the position of Spiritual teachers and blindly men follow. One tantric would say, you can get Grha shanti by killing a 5-year-old son and people foolishly do so without thinking logically or spiritually. Another cheating racket is that of the Yogis who mystify the public by flying in the air or turning things to ashes or removing a golden ball from one’s mouth or anything that common man cannot. Such hypnotic Mystic siddhis captivate the innocent minds and they surrender body mind n MONEY to such a person calling him GOD without again seeing whether the scriptures approve or they don’t.
Another set of people worship and consider bogus self-styled Babas who promise better health just by changing the color of one’s night gown or by changing the brand of one’s Rice sack.
Hilarious, isn’t it?
There is an endless list of such liars who for securing their present, prefer to cheat the common man for playing with one’s faith is the easiest way to rule.

True preachers are those who walk on this surface of earth not to impress anyone Not to accumulate wealth health or followers. They appear only to spread the true message of the scriptures selflessly. Why? They possess unlimited compassion and thus can see how mankind is suffering devoid of true God Consciousness, Krsna Consciousness.
Such acharyas never say things to entertain the crowd but speak the blatant truths of this material world. They prefer to Pinch us with the precarious reality than to comfort us with the false!

Shankaracharya, Ramanujacharya, Madhvacharya, Vishnu swami all belonged to this caliber and we are so fortunate to have got the works of Srila Prabhupada who happens to be the last acharya in the bonafide line of Madhvacharya starting from Krsna.

Grades don’t measure intelligence and age does not measure the maturity.

Quote: Grades don’t measure intelligence and age does not measure the maturity.

Krsna conscious version of the quote:

Human form is the most beautiful gift God can grant us. Imagine we getting into a Hotel and wanting to stay in a room. Depending on how much credit we have, we can accordingly book a room. Some get 1 room some into 2 room and some into deluxe rooms. This is what happens with life. Our good pious past lives’ credit lands us a chance to stay in a deluxe room (Human Form) with all latest facilities (Strength and Intellect). The supreme Lord Sri Krsna mercifully gives us to stay in this deluxe room of the human form for 50-60 odd years with a hope that we will make the best use of it. What is that best use?? To follow the path of pure devotion and get liberated from this cycle of Birth, Old age, Disease and death.
To augment this possibility, HE mercifully sends Pure Acharyas( Representatives) Holy scriptures and his all compassionate Holy name! However, if we still dont manage to take advantage, What’s the use of having this deluxe residence of Human form?

Hence grades don’t judge our intelligence. Anyone who can make the best use of this human form by surrendering to Krsna and embracing his holy name is Intelligent.
( Gajendra the elephant, Jatayu the vulture, Garuda the eagle, Hanuman the monkey, Jambavan the bear are examples of true intellects)

And age doesn’t judge maturity as one could be 80 yrs old but still materially attached. True Maturity means to rise to the need of the hour and Perform devotional service to Lord Krsna
(Prahlad and Druva Maharaj are examples of true maturity for they utilised every second of their life wisely).

Generally, we spend the first half of our life longing for the second half and then in the second half we regret for wasting the first one.

Quote: Generally, we spend the first half of our life longing for the second half and then in the second half we regret for wasting the first one.

Krsna conscious version of the quote:

In this material world, there are 3 phases on the basis of time. We have hankering for the future, anxiety at the present and then regret or lamentation for the past.

Krsna states in Bhagavad Gita 18.54

One who is thus transcendentally situated at once realizes the Supreme Brahman. He never laments nor desires to have anything; he is equally disposed to every living entity. In that state he attains pure devotional service unto Me.

A devotee never hankers for anything in the future nor laments for anything in the past. Such a devotee, stays at the present and accepts everything as the lord’s wish.

He tries to render service to the lord to the best of his ability and accepts everything (Good and Bad) as the mercy of the Lord.
